GPS devices are very useful, but they still lack certain features and it can be a bit difficult to plan a complex route, due to their small screens. You can find many tools on the Internet, which enable you to plan new trips or review and modify existing routes that were recorded by your GPS device. Unlike other similar programs, RouteConverter does not slow you down with thick layers of options and confusing features. It allows you to plan and edit routes for driving, cycling or walking in a simple and comfortable fashion. You just need to add your waypoints to a map and save your route, for one of many supported devices.

The application is freeware, so you don't have to pay for it, unless you want to make a donation. Another advantage is the fact that you don't have to go through an installation process. All you have to do is download and run an executable, which is roughly 7 MB.

Obviously, RouteConverter provides a map, on which you can zoom and pan. You may create new routes or select existing ones on the same window, but on separate tabs. To create a route, you must click a button, located on the Convert tab, to insert new waypoints on the map. Once inserted, you may drag the waypoint to a desired location. The application also allows you to choose between a route, a track or a simple waypoints list.

The best part is that RouteConverter connects your waypoints automatically, to highlight the entire journey. If you work in Route mode, the application will connect your points by detecting and highlighting roads. You can modify an existing path at any time, by clicking and dragging any point, along the highlighted road.

The application gives you access to a vast library of predefined routes from around the world. They are neatly organized in a tree structure, on the Browse tab. You can find numerous categories, such as 4x4 tracks, jogging, water or winter sports and many more. You can even find airborne routes. RouteConverter allows you to add and organize your own routes as well. It is also possible to add online routes, by providing its URL. When you save your route, you may choose from a huge range of output formats. The application is capable of saving your project as an HTML web page, Google Earth-compatible files or files for a wide variety of GPS devices.

Pros

Creating and editing a route is very easy. The application supports numerous output formats for the PC and various GPS devices. In addition, RouteConverter places a huge number of predefined routes at your disposal.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to mention. Reviewing, modifying or creating new routes for your GPS device can be done without any kind of difficulties, thanks to RouteConverter's smart functionality.
